Put UNSUNG PEACE HEROES in the spotlight
"Who is your peace hero?"
After the general elections of December 2007 violence sparked all over Kenya. Neighbours turned on neighbours and friends became enemies. But not everyone succumbed to the madness in those dark hours.
There were many people who did extraordinary things to restore peace, such as organizing a peace march, gave someone shelter or stood up for members of other communities. We asked you to nominate those peace heroes and received over 500 nominations. You can still find all nominations on the website but the entry period for nominations is closed since December 21st. The jury is selecting the winning Peace Heroes. In the beginning of March we will announce the names of the winners in the Standard newspaper and on the winners page of this website.
We want to set those UNSUNG PEACE HEROES in the spotlight.
Kenyan heroes are ordinary people who did extraordinary things for their fellow citizens or their country. More than once when we talk about heroes, we talk about men. But our unknown heroes can be men or woman; they can be young or old.
Do you know someone who did something extraordinary to restore peace and social cohesion?

Your Hero can win!
The jury will select 8 winners, who will receive at least Kshs 25.000 each. The jury has taken the initiative to raise more funds from corporates and individuals. The prize giving ceremony will take place on Thursday February 26th in Nairobi. The media will be invited to cover the event, which will take place in Narobi. Furthermore, a certificate will be handed to the unsung peace heroes and they will be interviewed.
The nomination period is closed for now. We received over 500 nominations, which is very inspiring. You can still look at all the nominations on the website. The stories of the winners will be published in the Standard newspaper in the beginning of March 2009.
